The clearomizer is the upper part of your electronic cigarette. It is made of three parts: a tank to hold the e-liquids, a mouthpiece (or drip tip), and a coil.

Although there are different types available, their functionality remains the same. The cotton wicks soak up the liquid through capillary action, drawing the e-liquid into contact with the coil wire. Pressing the switch on the battery heats up the coil, which then vaporizes a small quantity of e-liquid in contact. The resulting vapor travels up the chimney to the drip tip allowing you to inhale it.

According to the clearomizer, the sensations can vary depending on the draw and the used coils. Every vaper is different, that’s why A&L offers versatile clearomizers to meet all user needs.

What is a clearomizer made of?

Your electronic cigarette’s clearomizer is composed of several parts:

  • A base for screwing the clearomizer onto the battery. Many models have a ring on this part, which can be turned to open or close the airflow and thus adjust the draw.
  • A coil, which is generally a resistive wire wrapped around a wick of organic cotton. This is the only consumable of your clearomizer. It is changed regularly but doesn’t cost much.
  • A tank that contains the e-liquid. It’s usually transparent and made from Pyrex glass, and can hold between 1 and 10ml of liquid.
  • A chimney that allows the vapor to rise from the coil to the mouthpiece.
  • A mouthpiece known as a ‘drip tip’, used to inhale the vapor. There are many shapes and sizes available, each with a different feel and a varying influence on the vapor’s temperature.

Each part fits together and forms a device that is easy to maintain. The only consumable is the coil, which is changed every two weeks on average.

How does a clearomizer work?

Your electronic cigarette’s clearomizer works using a simple principle. Indeed, thanks to capillary action, the coil's fibre soaks up the e-liquid inside the tank, bringing it into contact with the resistive wire. Then, when pressing the battery switch, this wire is heated and enables the e-liquid to be vaporized. The resulting vapor rises the chimney; all you have to do is inhale it by placing your lips around the mouthpiece.

Thus, you can easily absorb your dose of nicotine while enjoying the taste of your favorite juice, all while exhaling a vapor that’s similar to the one produced by a tobacco cigarette, but without the latter’s toxic substances.

What’s the purpose of the clearomizer coil?

The coil is the component at the heart of your clearomizer. It's thanks to it that the e-liquid is vaporized.

Seeing as it’s such a crucial part of any e-cig, it’s available in several configurations, split into two main categories:

  • Sub-ohm coils, whose coil value is below 1 ohm. They’re mainly used to produce a large amount of vapor when combined with an airy draw.
  • The more classic coils, whose coil value is over 1 ohm. They’re more suited to a discreet vape with a smaller amount of vapor, along with a tight draw that’ll remind you of your old tobacco cigarettes. They’re ideal for high-nicotine liquids, nicotine salts, and CBD.

There are many clearomizer coils on the market. Some have more unique designs, are arranged vertically, or are made from several wires wound together, for example.

A coil needs to be combined with a wick to work properly. In the beginning, silica was mainly used, but over time it was replaced by organic cotton, which produces better vapor and flavors and lasts longer.

The coil must be replaced on a regular basis. It’s the only consumable of your clearomizer. On average, a coil is replaced every two weeks when your e-liquid’s taste seems altered or different. A new coil only costs about 2€ a piece, so it’s quite economical!

How to fill a clearomizer?

Most clearomizers today are filled from above, through a part called ‘top cap’. Depending on the model, you have to unscrew or push this top cap to access the filling wells. Once it’s open, simply insert the tip of your e-liquid bottle into it to fill the tank.

Some older models are filled from below. This method is more complicated than the former, as you can expect. It requires tilting the clearomizer downwards to fill it up. Once it’s done, you screw the base back onto the tank, and that's it!

It’s important to make sure you don’t pour any liquid into the chimney; otherwise it might rise when you inhale!

Finally, we recommend you wait at least 5 minutes after filling your clearomizer before turning your electronic cigarette on. This gives the cotton time to soak up enough liquid, making it last longer.

How to clean your clearomizer?

Like any piece of equipment, a clearomizer should be maintained regularly to last as long as possible. Obviously, this means it has to be cleaned from time to time.

Here are a few tips for cleaning your clearomizer:

  • Unscrew the clearomizer from the battery
  • Dismantle every part, remembering where each one goes!
  • Clean the parts (except the coil) with warm soapy water and then rinse thoroughly with clean water.
  • Dry all the parts with paper towels
  • Put your clearomizer back together
  • Screw it back onto the battery

Note that some accessories can help you take care of your clearomizer. Vape bands, for example, protect the e-cig’s tank, and you can find protective cases for your electronic cigarette as well.

What’s the difference between a clearomizer and an atomizer?

There isn’t a fundamental difference between the two, as they both work using the same principle. However, an atomizer is ‘rebuildable’, meaning the user builds and sets up their own coil, thus customizing their vape down to the last detail.

That’s why clearomizers are often recommended to beginners, while rebuildable atomizers are better suited to more experienced users.

Indeed, a clearomizer requires little vaping knowledge. Just install a ready-made coil, fill the tank with e-liquid, and you’re ready to vape.

Conversely, a vaper with a rebuildable atomizer has to build their own coil. They then insert a wick of cotton into said coil and optimize their vape to suit their specific preferences. They need to be familiar with the equipment and Ohm’s law, but rebuildable vaping remains accessible to everyone if you take time to look into it.

There are two types of atomizer: RDAs and RTAs:

  • The RDA (Rebuildable Dripper Atomizer) is commonly known as a dripper. This atomizer doesn’t have a tank; therefore, you have to regularly pour e-liquid onto the cotton in order to vape. Vapers enjoy the flavors it can produce, and it’s handy for tasting DIY liquids.
  • The RTA (Rebuildable Tank Atomizer) is a rebuildable atomizer with a tank. You build your own coil, and you get better flavors and vapor than with a standard clearomizer.

A rebuildable atomizer is much more economical in terms of consumables, since a spool of wire and a bit of cotton are cheaper than ready-made coils for clearomizers. However, the latter are much better for beginners, whereas rebuildable atomizers are intended for more experienced vapers who are familiar with electronic cigarettes.

How to choose the best clearomizer?

The clearomizer is the key part of your electronic cigarette, so you naturally want the best!

Follow our advice and pick the best clearomizer for your needs. Our team works hard to select the right clearomizers for the job!

Finding the right clearomizer for yourself in our store is an easy task. Whether you prefer direct or indirect inhaling, a discreet vape or massive subohm clouds, there’s something for every taste and every budget.

You’ll find a large selection of devices from the biggest electronic cigarette brands. Eleaf, Joyetech, Aspire, Kangertech, Smok, and many more offer their latest innovations, which we sell at the best price.

How to choose a clearomizer?

Choosing a clearomizer directly impacts your vaping experience. The type of draw, indirect inhalation (MTL) or direct inhalation (DL), is the first factor to consider. An MTL clearomizer offers a cigarette-like experience with a tight draw, moderate vapor production, and good flavor reproduction from your e-liquids. A DL clearomizer, on the other hand, produces more vapor and requires more power from your box mod. Check out our customers’ reviews for each product to make the best purchase based on your preferences.

Airflow control is also a key factor: the wider the opening, the more open the draw and the more vapor you’ll get. Conversely, a smaller opening provides a tighter draw, which is ideal for MTL vaping. Among the leading brands, Geekvape stands out with models known for their reliability and high-quality airflow, whether you’re vaping with a high-powered mod or an entry-level kit.

Clearomizers by vaper type

For a beginner, a simple MTL clearomizer with a pre-installed coil is the best place to start. It’s easy to get the hang of right away, the draw feels familiar, and high-nicotine e-liquids work perfectly with this type of device. For an experienced vaper looking for more power and vapor, a sub-ohm clearomizer with adjustable airflow and mesh coils offers a much richer experience. Geekvape, with its Zeus and Huracan lines, offers models suited to all vapers, receives very positive customer reviews, and guarantees compatibility with the leading mods on the market.

Your inhalation style also affects your e-liquid consumption: a DL clearomizer uses more e-liquid than an MTL clearomizer for the same amount of use. Keep these differences in mind when making your purchase so you can properly plan your e-liquid supply. The detailed reviews for each clearomizer in our store help you assess actual consumption based on your vaping style and the power of your mod.
