Save money and make your own CBD e-liquids

Making your own CBD e-liquid is a great way of saving a considerable amount of money!

You'll quickly notice that CBD e-liquids are much more expensive than traditional nicotine liquids, even at the lowest dosages.

What makes CBD so expensive is the way it's extracted from the cannabis plant. It's a complex and expensive process that has to comply with strict standards and requires high-tech equipment.

To give you an idea, 10ml of nicotined liquid costs about 5€ on average to produce, regardless of its nicotine content, whereas 10ml of CBD e-liquid can cost between 10 and 89€ depending on its dosage. Now that's a noticeable difference indeed!

The cost of CBD itself remains high in any scenario, but if you opt for the DIY approach, you can easily cut your spending in half. We'll show you how throughout this following guide.

The ingredients you need to make a good CBD e-liquid

If you want to make your own CBD e-liquid the right way, you'll need various ingredients that you can obviously find on our shop:

  • a base liquid, comprised of propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG). This is the key part of any e-liquid, as it's by balancing the PG / VG ratio that you either get more vapour or a stronger hit in your throat.
  • one or more concentrates that flavour your CBD e-liquid. There are thousands of flavour concentrates to choose from, so you can pick the one you prefer and customise the taste to your heart's content. These include tastes such as pineapple, berries, mint and even cannabis, to name a few.
  • CBD, obviously, the most important ingredient here. In DIYing it's mainly available as CBD boosters, at several dosages.
  • an optional additive that'll add an extra flavour to your DIY recipe, if you wish.
  • finally, you'll need an empty bottle for storing your e-liquid once you've mixed all the ingredients together.

If you think this list is a bit long, especially if you're a DIY beginner, know that these ingredients will allow you to make a large amount of CBD e-liquid, so the initial investment will pay off in the long run. So, you'll be saving money from the first bottle!

Making your own CBD e-liquid

Now that you know all the ingredients you need to make your own CBD e-liquid, the next step is to make it!

First of all, grab the empty bottle. Then, pour your chosen PG / VG base into it. Note that the more PG there is in your base liquid, the more precise your flavours and the stronger the hit will be. Conversely, the more VG there is, the more vapour you'll produce. In general, we recommend a base liquid with at least 50% of PG in it when using CBD.

Once your base is ready, add the right amount of CBD to get the dosage you want. Then, pour the flavour concentrate(s) of your choice into the mix, following the recommended dosage on the product's label.

Once you've completed all these steps, close the bottle and shake it vigorously for one or two minutes, and your homemade CBD e-liquid is ready!

A bit of steep time for better flavours

Your CBD e-liquid is now done, but there is one last step you can follow if you want to enjoy your mixture to its fullest.

Indeed, it's always best to let your mixture steep for a few days before you vape it, so that its flavours can fully mature. With a little patience, you'll get much better results.

This maturation period, also called steep time, differs depending on the flavour you put in your recipe. Allow 2 to 3 days for fruity flavours, and one to two weeks for tasty and tobacco-flavoured blends.

Once you've waited long enough, taste your recipe and if you like the result, then your CBD e-liquid is ready!

Storing your CBD e-liquid

In order to preserve the quality of your CBD e-liquid for as long as possible, it's important to store it in a certain way.

Firstly, remember to package your CBD liquids in resealable bottles, like the ones available on our shop.

Secondly, storing them away from light and heat sources is always a good thing to do. This will prevent your liquids from oxidising and losing their taste.

Some vapers like to keep their liquids in the fridge, but just keeping them in a dry and dark cupboard is more than enough.

Finally, if you can lock the cupboard where you keep your e-liquid it's best to do so, so that your children or pets don't accidentally swallow it.

If you follow this advice, your CBD e-liquids will last as long as you need them to, all without losing their quality.

Which CBD dosage for my e-liquid?

Finding the right CBD dosage isn't always easy. Here are a few tips to help you choose it.

First of all, it's important to remember that nicotine and CBD are completely different molecules, both in terms of effects and purpose. You need to take the time to try CBD and understand its consumption in order to find the ideal dosage for your specific needs.

Thus, if you've never vaped CBD before, we recommend that you opt for a ready-made e-liquid the first time. It'll more easily allow you to determine the dosage that suits you and then refine it if necessary.

Can you mix nicotine with CBD?

One of the most frequently asked questions about CBD e-liquids is whether you can combine nicotine and CBD? Is it dangerous?

You may not know it, but it is strongly advised not to mix CBD and nicotine.

Why? Because nicotine and CBD have completely opposite effects. Indeed, it's useless to combine nicotine's psychoactive effect with CBD's soothing properties. It's like if you decided to take a sleeping pill whilst swallowing an energy drink.
