A pod is generally made up of a tank that's filled with e-liquid, with a coil inside it that vapourises said liquid. Do pods require a specific maintenance?
We generally sort electronic cigarettes into two major categories. The first one is the all-in-one (AIO) kit, where the battery and the tank are connected and cannot be dismantled. Therefore, you have to be careful not to damage anything when you clean it.
The second one makes up the vast majority of today's electronic cigarettes, that is, a kit with a box mod and a removable clearomiser. Unlike the first ones, these can be dismantled, allowing for an in-depth clean of every part.
Pod electronic cigarettes mostly belong to the first category, although there are a few exceptions. However, cleaning a Pod is simple enough, but it requires a bit more rigour so as to not damage your vape's components.
How do you clean a Podmod?
Generally speaking, it's the Pod's cartridge that requires the most attention.
Pods use a variety of cartridges. Some are sealed, some can be refilled, and others have a removable coil.
Sealed cartridges are the simplest ones to use. When the cartridge is empty, or when its coil is worn out, you just need to replace the cartridge with a new one to carry on vaping.
Pods with removable cartridges, for their part, can be cleaned. To do so, you must detach the cartridge from the battery, and then remove the coil if possible. Rinse the tank with water and wipe it with a dry cloth afterwards. Put it all back together, fill it up with your favourite e-liquid and you're ready to vape again!
In any case, you have to regularly clean the pod's mouthpiece, commonly called 'drip tip'. Whether you can remove it or not, rinse it with clean water and wash it with a drop of washing-up liquid or white vinegar, then dry it with a clean cloth.
The pod's battery doesn't require any particular maintenance, just wipe it from time to time to remove the daily grime. If you do all this on a regular basis, your electronic cigarette will last much longer.
Making sure your Pod is in good condition
If you're a bit clumsy, know that there are a few tips that'll help you take care of your vape kit all the same.
Every vaper should adopt these habits, both for his comfort and for the lifespan of his electronic cigarette.
Firstly, get used to regularly checking the amount of e-liquid that's in the tank. You shouldn't use your Pod if there isn't enough e-liquid in it, even less so if the tank is empty, you'd risk burning the fibre inside the coil. This is commonly referred to as a 'dry hit', which leaves a strong and unpleasant burnt taste in your mouth. If it does happen to you, you'll have to replace the coil with a new one.
Another good habit to pick up is to avoid storing your Pod with a full tank for days on end without using it. Indeed, the coil could clog up prematurely, and when you turn the electronic cigarette back on it's very likely that it'll leak!
Finally, avoid leaving your electronic cigarette lying around at the bottom of your bag or pocket, among other dirty places. Your drip tip will end up covered in grime and dust, which is far from hygienic as you can imagine.
