My electronic cigarette's LED light is blinking

You now know how to vape using an electronic cigarette. Its operation no longer holds any secrets, well, almost. There's something odd though, your e-cig's light is blinking! What's that about?

A light flickers on your battery. You're rightfully wondering what could be causing this unusual flashing, especially since it can completely prevent you from vaping sometimes. The vapour that's produced is reduced, or even non-existent!

This blinking is actually an indicator of your e-cig malfunctioning. Arômes et Liquides tells you what could be causing said blinking.

Your battery is empty

Many electronic cigarettes display how much charge they have left, thanks to the battery's LED. It is often the case that your battery blinks but does not produce any vapour when it needs to be fully recharged. Sometimes, the indicator lights up when the battery is fully empty. In other cases, the LED blinks. Whatever the case, it's time for you to recharge your battery!

If your battery is built into the e-cigarette, you must use the micro-USB cable provided. We recommend you charge your device by connecting it to a PC or TV USB port, rather than your smartphone's charger. Indeed, the charging power shouldn't exceed 0.5 Amp, whereas a phone charger works with a 2 Amp intensity. This intensity can overheat your battery and prematurely damage it if you charge it repeatedly like this.

If your battery is separate, you should charge it with an external charger when possible. This will prolong the battery life and keep it working at its best.

By the way, have you thought about checking if your charger was working properly? We don't often think about it, but it's a simple problem to detect if it does indeed happen! Of course, it's also possible that your battery is definitely worn out. The only solution here is to replace it with a new one.

Remember to always protect your batteries from impacts or excessive temperature differences. To do so, you can use battery wraps or store them in a case.

The coil or the clearomiser are not detected

Your battery is charged, but you notice that the LED light is still flashing. It might be because there's no contact between your battery and your coil.

Remember that these two parts are connected, in order to allow the battery's energy to heat the coil.

To be precise, an e-cigarette actually has two connector pins. The first one is located on the battery, and the other one is on the clearomiser (or atomiser). Firstly, you need to make sure that these connector pins are properly screwed together. If it's not the case and your device isn't working as it should, try unscrewing your clearomiser and screwing it back on.

Moreover, you shouldn't over-tighten your clearomiser. You might want to screw your clearomiser a little bit too tightly, but the irony is that you actually risk creating a faulty contact!

Indeed, when a clearomiser is screwed on too tightly, the coil is squashed against the battery's pin. This results in an empty space that's responsible for the faulty contact. So, be a smart vaper and don't over-tighten your equipment!

If the LED is still blinking though, it can be because the connector pins are dirty, humid, or covered in e-liquid. The mixture of propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin can indeed leave a viscous residue on these pins, disturbing the proper operation of your device and possibly damaging your battery in the process.

This is why you should keep the connector pins clean at all times. You can do so by wiping them with a cotton bud and some alcohol.

If your connection is still faulty, it can be that your box's pin is spring-loaded and still pushed in. To put it back in place, you can try using a pin or a small screwdriver.

A problem caused by your coil

Your battery's light can also blink if your coil hasn't had time to sufficiently cool between two puffs. On average, you have to wait between 15 and 20 seconds before inhaling on your electronic cigarette again.
If you don't respect this time span and your coil is still too hot, your e-cig shuts itself down automatically.

Your coil can be defective as well. If you've followed all of the previous advice but you still can't vape, that means it's time to change your coil! It can happen that shocks or wear and tear make the coil move inside your clearomiser. It can then unsolder itself and no longer guarantee a proper electrical contact. Try replacing your coil to enjoy your favourite flavours again!

A dirty electronic cigarette

Sometimes, all an electronic cigarette needs to work properly again is a good old clean. Regular maintenance is key to a pleasant vaping experience!

Therefore, we recommend you give your electronic cigarette a full clean every time you change your coil.
If your electronic cigarette flashes, think about cleaning your screw threads.
Also, check that there isn't any e-liquid residue on your e-cig equipment. Any liquid in contact with the battery can prevent it from functioning correctly, as you'll get a faulty contact with the clearomiser.

If your e-liquid overflows from your tank, you can absorb the excess with a paper towel or a cloth.

And if none of this works?

You've tried everything. Your vaping technique is top notch, your electronic cigarette is impeccably maintained, and you follow all of our aforementioned advice. Nonetheless, the light still flashes.
